Kenyan churches achieved a significant milestone on 30th August 2023, for promoting responsible leadership and stewardship within the religious community. This was done by developing a comprehensive Code of Conduct in a collaborative effort that engaged 250 church leaders and Hesabika Trust.
AfCAA, an organization at the forefront of advancing organizational excellence, played a pivotal role in this project. Mrs. Valentine Gitoho, chairperson of AfCAA, and Emily Chengo, the former Executive Director of AfCAA, represented AfCAA in the financial stewardship and Leadership and governance Committees. Their expertise and commitment contributed to the creation of a unified and robust document that extends its application to Churches, Church institutions, Church leaders, and Para-Church Organizations.
The Code of Conduct establishes a basic framework for ethical practices, governance, and financial stewardship. It is a comprehensive document that mandates churches to have internal mechanisms for resolving disputes and promoting accountability, transparency, and ethical conduct among church leaders and members. The code demonstrates a pledge to honesty and integrity in the Kenyan religious arena, and it is a testimony to the cooperative spirit of the religious community.
AfCAA invites all stakeholders and interested parties to download and engage with the Code of Conduct for Churches in Kenya. This resource promises to be a valuable tool in fostering a culture of responsible leadership and ethical governance within the religious sector. This initiative exemplifies AfCAA’s dedication to shaping positive change across diverse sectors in Africa.
